Three Reasons to Go Solar in Devon

At MIG Renewables, we’re often asked what are the main reasons to consider having solar panels installed. Often, we have to give very specific answers, as our customer want to know these reasons in relation to their particular circumstances. However, there are some reasons that everyone can relate to, so we’ve compile a top three list. Read on…

Save Money

This has to be one on everyone’s radar. In an economy where the big six power providers are constantly changing their deals, installing solar panels can not only save you money – they can also make you money. There are various options available, but the best is to sell your excess energy back to the National Grid, as part of the Feed-In Tariff (FIT). The FIT scheme allows you to make money by selling directly back to the suppliers, which will cover the cost of your installation – quicker than you might think.

There are two types of solar panels you might want to consider: photovoltaic panels, which provide electricity for your home, and solar thermal panels, which allow you to heat your water – also cutting back on your bills.

Increase the Value of Your Home

A home with solar panels is going to have lower energy bills. As a result, a study by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory found that homes with solar panels not only sell 20% quicker than those without, but that 17% of these homes actually sold for more than the asking price. Whether you’re thinking of selling or not, solar panel installation can add to the value of your bricks and mortar, making them a prudent, long-term investment.

 Low Maintenance Costs

With solar technology, many people worry that they’re wandering into unfamiliar – and potentially expensive territory. The truth is that solar panels are cheap to install and cheap to maintain. All our panels are guaranteed for at least 25 years. As there are no moving parts, there is no wear and tear – the most you’ll need to do is give them a clean every now and then – about twice a year should cover it.

The financial benefits of solar power are obvious, but there are greater benefits for the country, in terms of reduced carbon emissions. If you have any questions any aspect of solar panels, feel free to drop us a line – we’re always happy to help.
